Question

I have 1998 Ford F150. Like so many, I want to squeeze every mile to the gallon I can. I have looked at a lot of different air box set ups. I have installed a K&N filter and Flo Master exhaust system that has increased my mileage. Can I take the stock air box and cut it in half? would that allow more air to enter? Would I have to buy a engine programmer to re-program the computer for more air intake also? Thank-you for your help. Joe Jackson St. Louis, Mo.

Question

What's up guys first off great work on the matt eye truck. I recently asked you guys about control arms on drews dodge you said that you may have moved the mounting points a little. My main question is about the upper control arm. I am a fabricator so I can build what ever needs building, I just don't know that much about front suspensions. Could I jig up my upper stock control arm and build one identical from dom and just add adjustable rod ends at the pick up point to adjust my alignment back out? Any info on this would be great. Thanks Joshua Chanute, KS

Is it ever "to cold for bags"? I just moved to the Texas panhandle and the temp. stays between 13-27 degrees some mornings. Is there anything I need for a cold weather set up on my 03' f-150, I'd like to make it a daily dragger, but how? antifreeze? nitrogen? Thanks in advance, D. Corbin Canyon, TX

Question

First off, I love reading all of the questions you guys answer each month. I would ideally like to put a ford 520 c.i. engine into a 2WD '98 Ranger. My question is whether or not this is even possible to do while still sitting on either 19's or 20's and bags? If it is possible, what problems am I for sure going to run into and what can I do? Question

I'm installing a '50 Chevy 5-window pickup body onto a '91 GMC K-1500 4x4 chassis. Yes, I need the 4x4; we've received more than 25 feet of snow this Winter. I've channeled the body down over the frame as much as possible and yet maintain wheelwell clearance in the front, but I would like it lower. The front suspension is torsion-bar. Any way possible to get this truck to set lower to the ground? Thanks in advance! Maury (970) 870-0835

Question

What's up fellas? I have an interesting one for you. I have a 95 full size bowtie, with a static drop (5"-7"/ with leaf springs). I have been contemplating the air bag route for it. I am building the truck for drag racing as well as street and show. For the most part the truck will be daily driven. As far as the racing goes, I am assuming that the air bag idea may rob me of precious traction at the tree, given that it a soft ride. I believe that a stiffer suspension is better for drag racing. Would you agree?

Question

I read your column every issue and now its my turn for a question. I live about as far away from the L.A area as you can be but am still very interested in custom trucks. So I have a 1997 Chevy Silverado ext cab that I am customizing (mildly) I started with a fiberglass low rider box cover and now have a dual exhaust setup with all that I have 20" wheels and tires to go on it once the weather warms up. Now here is my question, I had a 2/4 lowering job done to complete my initial custom project, now when I drive the rear suspension bottoms out very easily on almost non existent ripples on the roadway. We used quality components (belltech), drop spindles in front and shackles and hangers in the rear, the only thing that wasn't changed in the rear was the factory bump stop. The shop that did the work is very reputable and has done some work like this before just not 4" in the rear drop( this is 4 wheel drive country) any advise would be greatly welcomed thanks...Dale

Question

hey bro. I know that in one of the recent streetrucks mags you guys or someone else touched on air tanks. I cant seem to find the article or mag. I have to make a tank for an 03 honda accord that I did air ride on. it would be easy, just buy some, but with a full fiberglass sub enclosure, batteries, amps, and nos tanks in it, I have no room. I was wondering if there is an equation to use when building a tank to figure out by the size, how many gallons of air goes into it? I thought the article said stick with a round style tank, that square ones weren't as good? let me know guys, thanks. [email protected]

Question

I have a 1997 Chevy 1500 that I am bodydropping at this moment and I am running into lots of problems. Problem number one is when I put twenty two's on 265/35/22 the frame wouldn't lay on the ground and I was told to put some djm upper control arms. So I did after that the driver side cambered more than the passenger side did plus the driver side lays frame and the passenger side doesn't it lacks about an inch. the angle of the arm is different on each side so I don't know what to do from here. Problem number two is how to run the fuel lines, wires, and brake line all on the side of a 4 inch rectangular tubing? Problem three is I don't know where to relocate my computer from the fenderwell. Last problem is if I can remove the abs system and what would I need to do this. If I can get all my questions answered that would be real cool so I can try to get this thing rolling again. keep dragging and keep cutting!

I keep reading that it should not or can not be done but, I want to know about how durable coil over shocks would be on 2 1/2 ton Rockwell axels for the street and also off-road. Thank you for your time.

Question

I own an '03 Dakota sport v-8 club cab. Already has a 3" - 5" DJM drop in it with 20" RT rims from www.Lakeshorewheelandtire.com. I don't want to get rid of the rims because I love them but I want to lay the truck low to the ground. I know about airbags but I cant seem to find a way to get the job done without hitting the wheels. The wheels are flush with the wheel flares. Can I bring the wheels in closer to the engine bay somehow and if so, how? [email protected] if you can help me. Thanks for reading about my problem!

Question

IFC, I was curious, it doesn't really relate to trucks completely. I was wondering if 'bagging and body-dropping a caprice wagon was too involved, I've always liked the look, but it seems like it would be a lot of work. Just wondering P.S. love IFC's work.

Question

First of all, thanks for putting such an awesome mag out there for us. Love reading every page. My question is about my 91 Chevy full size. It's bagged and was set up for 20's, but I recently purchased a set of 22s, and now it doesn't lay. I know the rearend housing is hitting the notch( no problem, I can live with that.) But in the front, I think the air bags are fully compressing before the frame lays out. I think I can solve this by shaving the bag cup on top (the lower one is gone cuz the bag is now mounted to tubular cont. arm). And I know that people say you must pie cut the frame for the arms to lay, but my arms are just barely touching the frame ( if at all). And my main concern is that if I cut too much of the bag cup off, then I'm not gonna get enough lift to clear the wheels. Any help would be appreciated, I don't know how much longer I can go without dragging some frame. Thanks,, Vince

Question

I've been studying cantilever suspension and stuff, and I'm thinking about doing it. I don't know how to measure up for the stuff. I was wanting to run bags on the back of the frame, pivot on the c-notch, and have the arms push on the lower 4 link bars. I am confused on measurements. I wanna run 1:2.5 on the bag part, and 1:2.5 on the mounts for the lower bars but its confusing me. I'm not sure on how to draw it up and fab it up... help?

Question

I have been trying to figure out the best way to re-bag the rear of my '97 Yukon I just bought recently. Was wondering what the best way to go with factory gas tank and keep a great ride. I am running 22.9" wheels on the rear, so I shouldn't have to narrow the rear should I? Any help would be greatly appreciated. You guys do an awesome job helping everyone out! Thanks again, Justin
